Wreaths, roping and fellowship at FFA holiday production

FALLS VILLAGE — It’s time again for the Holiday Production Nights with the Housatonic FFA.FFA members and alumni create wreaths, evergreen roping and an extraordinary atmosphere of fellowship and community on Thursday, Dec. 1, and Wednesday, Dec. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in the agriculture education wing.Anyone feeling disillusioned, disappointed or just down in the dumps should check out this event. The sight of young people working together and having a ball — and doing it without cussing — warms the grinchiest heart.And if you return Sunday, Dec. 11, 8:30 a.m. to noon, you can buy your holiday wreaths, trees and other holiday goods from the FFA holiday store and enjoy a waffle/egg/sausage breakfast for $5 per adult and $3 per child. An extra $2 gets a photo with Santa Claus, who never misses this annual event.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
