Whalers finish season with two wins, but no playoff trip

WINSTED — The Winsted Whalers won back-to-back games at Walker Field on Saturday, July 23, and Sunday, July 24. However, the wins were not good enough to send the Whalers to the Tri-State Baseball League playoffs.The team ends their season with a record of eight wins and 10 losses.The Whalers beat the Watertown Blaze on Saturday by a score of 7-6.On Sunday, the Whalers dominated the Prospect Homers 17-4.“We’ve been doing alright,” manager DJ Reese said before Saturday’s game. “Our strength this year has been our pitching. We’ve been dominating all year.”The team ends their season in 14th place out of 17 teams.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
