Vote for town historian in Genealogy Idol

FALLS VILLAGE — Elizabeth Clark, curator and archivist at the Depot Museum of the Falls Village-Canaan Historical Society, and the town historian, is one of four finalists competing in the first-ever Genealogy Idol competition on Thursday, Feb. 2. Clark is one of two finalists who will present, live, in Salt Lake City, Utah. (The other two will participate via the Internet.)In the three rounds of competition, the four contestants will demonstrate their expertise. The first round is “Favorite Technology Tip”; round two, “Genealogy Serendipity Story”; the final round concerns technology websites and blogs. Each contestant gets three minutes on each topic. The entire contest will last one hour.The winner is chosen by viewers of the program online. Participation is limited to the first 1,000 people who register. To sign up, go online to www3.gotomeeting.com/register/754294750.The other contestants are Elyse Doerflinger of Lomita, Calif., Michael Hait of Harrington, Del., and Marian Pierre-Louis of Millis, Mass.Clark wrote in an email to The Lakeville Journal that she has been researching her family history for at least 20 years.She got started after her mother became ill, motivated to know her family’s medical history.“Then I got hooked on the history involved.”Clark discovered the Goshen Family History Center, run by the Church of Latter Day Saints, which has a strong interest in genealogy. She wound up being a volunteer there, and in the last couple of years became involved with the Historical Society. “All genealogical/house and land history questions that come to the D.M. Water main cleaning in North Canaan

NORTH CANAAN – Aquarion Water Company today announced a water main cleaning project in the company’s North Canaan system. A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.

Cabaret comes to St. Andrew's in Kent

Music in the Nave will again tap into local talent April 6 at 7 p.m. when its features George Potts in an intimate cabaret concert in the St. Andrew’s Church parish house.

Pott is a well-known figure in the community, both through his presence in the perennially popular Fife ‘n Drum, the restaurant started by his father-in-law, renowned pianist Dolph Trayman, and through his own career as a folk musician.
