John Macready (first to solo across the USA, first to fly to 40,000 feet), bolted tanks of pesticide to an old plane and flew above an Ohio Catalpa forest infested with Sphynx Moth and sprayed the forest. It was the first ever insecticide spray from a plane and it was totally successful.
