A View From the Edge

When we were children, it was not uncommon to have classmates or neighborhood friends decide they wanted different games, different groups of friends, even different morals and values. How many can remember the bully who wanted everyone to do as he or she said?

Explorers take many shapes and forms.

In WWI, Germany launched a Zeppelin and conducted aerial bombing of London. In WWII, the Axis and then the Allies conducted devastating non-military-target bombing raids on each others’ cities and populace in an effort to bring the enemy to its knees.

In times of extreme duress and depravation — such as we’ve all experienced for almost two years now — you always need to look for the uplifting, the positive and future healing. And, like my family, I am sure you know of horrors and stupidity of friends and acquaintances that pepper these past months.

Holiday gatherings are a time for wine, laughter and some very corny jokes. In the spirit of post-2020 and departing 2021 — where we all need a laugh — here are a few (hopefully new to you) jokes to share while we all Zoom or call family:

What do you call a gator asking questions? An investigator.

‘What the heck is that?” I can hear you asking.

If you live in a city, the 2.7-degree change expected globally in the next decade or so will actually be 7.2 degrees in cities. Why? Because cities are heat traps and, to make matters worse, air conditioning (AC) removes heat from inside buildings and dumps it outside.

What do you say, to friends, family and even yourself when someone precious to you passes away? Can you find the words, can you put together a telling phrase or anything poignant enough to pay tribute and, at the same time, express your grief?
