75 years ago — August 1936

Reflections of the Season (editorial): A lot of good money is being burnt up in gasoline these days that would go quite a ways toward keeping the home fires burning brightly next January.

SALISBURY — Reverend and Mrs. Earl O. Pearman returned Saturday from vacationing in the Green Mountains.

LIME ROCK — Miss Carolyn Stanton has returned after being in Torrington.

TACONIC — Mr. and Mrs. George Wright of Great Barrington, Mass., were callers on friends in town on Sunday.

50 years ago — August 1961

Because of statute limitations Edward B. Hitchcock Jr., nominated as candidate to the Salisbury Board of Finance by the Salisbury Democratic Caucus, was not eligible to serve (he owns no property in the town.) At a meeting last week the Democratic Town Committee appointed Miss Anne Whitbeck to fill this vacancy. Miss Whitbeck will be the first woman to serve on this board.

SALISBURY — Harris Rosseter of San Francisco, former resident, is in Salisbury for a month to visit relatives. He is staying at Mayflower Farm, the home of Miss Julia Pettee on Selleck Hill. Mr. Rosseter is a nephew of Samuel Rosseter who won fame many years ago when he found Amos Bonhotel, “the little lost boy of Mt. Riga.”

25 years ago — August 1986

Richard W. Haskel of Lake-ville is now affiliated with Country Business, Inc., a business brokerage and acquisition firm with offices throughout New England. Mr. Haskel will represent the company in Litchfield County and immediately surrounding areas.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.
