Sylvia Sartori

NORTH CANAAN — Sylvia Sartori, 92, of East Canaan, passed away Oct. 17, 2011, at Geer Village. She was the widow of John Sartori. Sylvia was born April 7, 1919, in North Canaan, daughter of the late Lena (Colli) and John Togninalli.She was employed at General Electric in Norfolk, and retired from Becton Dickinson in North Canaan. Sylvia was an avid outdoors person, with a love of her family, her friends, her gardens, her home, and all animals, especially her beloved cocker spaniels. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in North Canaan.She is survived by her sister, Alice Alquesta of East Canaan; her sister-in-law, Stella Togninalli of North Canaan; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Sylvia was predeceased by her sisters, Edith Piretti and Alda Coe; her brothers, Guido and Reno Togninalli; and her nephew, Michael Togninalli.A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Joseph’s Church in North Canaan on Oct. 22. Burial followed in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorial donations may be sent to the North Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 178, North Canaan, CT 06018; the Canaan Fire Dept.; or the Canaan Railroad Museum. Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.
