SHARON — Under perfectly sunny skies and with beaming families and friends looking on, the 10 members of the Class of 2022 each accepted Sharon Center School diplomas well prepared for the next phase of educational achievement. Their promotion ceremony was held in front of the school on Tuesday, June 14.

Sharon selectmen consider EV charger at firehouse

SHARON — While it would still need to be considered by the Planning and Zoning Commission, the selectmen discussed a recent proposal to install electric vehicle charging stations at the Sharon Fire Department parking lot.

Year two of spongy moth devastation

SHARON — For the second year in a row, an invasion of spongy moth caterpillars has caused significant defoliation of trees in the Northwest Corner, causing concern among state and local foresters and environmentalists who said a repeat next year could cause mass mortality to stressed trees.

Sharon Hospital: Sharon opposes cutbacks

SHARON — Joining with area towns in opposition to a proposal by parent company Nuvance Health to reduce services at Sharon Hospital, the Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to sign a resolution in support of maintaining the hospital’s vital services at their regular meeting on Tuesday, June 14.

Sharon fire department nears fundraising goal for new tanker

SHARON — A campaign that began last fall seeking to replace the fire department’s old engine and tanker vehicle at a cost of $575,000, has recently been awarded a matching grant by the Low Road Foundation.

Nuvance names new president at Sharon Hospital

June 10, 2022

SHARON — Nuvance Health appointed Christina McCulloch as the new president of Sharon Hospital, replacing Dr. Mark Hirko, who has held the post since December of 2019.

McCulloch, a long-time Litchfield County resident, has worked with the hospital for more than eight years, most recently serving as its chief nursing officer.

SHARON — After 15 years of urging Comcast and Frontier to improve and broaden their services to cover all Sharon residences, the 12-member Sharon Connect Task Force announced news this week of possible progress toward the goal.

Sharon distributes half of federal ARPA funding

SHARON — Over the past months since receiving the first half of the town’s total $800,000 allocation of funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the town’s ARPA Advisory Committee has created, circulated and collected applications for funding from local families, small businesses and organizations.
