Lighting the Menorah

About 30 residents gathered at dusk on the Sharon Town Green to observe the beginning of the eight-day Jewish celebration of Hanukkah by lighting the first of the candles on the town’s traditional menorah on Sunday,  Dec. 18. One additional candle will be lit on each day.

SHARON — The state Office of Health Strategies online public hearing on Sharon Hospital’s application to close its labor and delivery unit started on time at 10 a.m. and ended at 9:36 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

State holds marathon hearing on Sharon Hospital plan to close maternity unit

SHARON — The state Office of Health Strategy online public hearing on Sharon Hospital’s application to close its labor and delivery unit started on time at 10 a.m. and ended at 9:36 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Christmas Bird Count set in Connecticut and New York

SHARON — For over 120 years, small groups of birders have ventured out in December for the Christmas Bird Count, with the sole purpose of counting birds.

This free event, known in our area as the Trixie Strauss Christmas Bird Count, occurs on Sunday, Dec. 18. from 12:01 am to midnight.

Charcoal Annie’s story shines at Sharon Historical Society show

SHARON — When “Charcoal Annie” lived her labor-intensive 19th-century life in Sharon, she could not have imagined that her life story would be spotlighted in a 21st-century historical society project.

Steiner to read from WWII novel

SHARON — Anyone who has gotten to know the character of Willi Geismeier through the historical novels (“The Good Cop” and “The Constant Man”) by Sharon’s Peter Steiner will know that he is a force to be reckoned with, a one-time Munich police detective who stops at nothing to bring evil deeds to light and evil doers to justice.

Sharon considers speed humps

SHARON — Responding to a petition from Hilltop Road residents along with years of study and public discussion, the Board of Selectmen at its meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 9, unanimously recommended installing speed humps to slow traffic along the long incline of that short road.
