SHARON, Conn. — Testing for COVID-19 will move to an appointment-only basis at Sharon Hospital until further notice. All specimen collections at the hospital are completed in an isolated area at the facility’s rear Wound Care entrance.

Plans are being presented in 2021 to the town of Sharon for a renovation and expansion of the town’s library, known as the Hotchkiss Library of Sharon. Plans were most recently presented in 2008 for a similar expansion and at that time this history of the building was published in The Lakeville Journal.
SHARON — David R. Chase Jr., 69, of Amenia Union Road, passed peacefully Dec. 4, 2020, at home, surrounded by his family.
David was born July 18, 1951, in Sharon, the son of Alice (Cookingham) and David Chase Sr.
SHARON — Voters agreed unanimously to accept a grant from the state Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) at a special town meeting held at the Sharon Congregational Church on Friday, Dec. 4. The meeting drew sparse attendance for its in-person voting participation and only two residents as Zoom observers.
SHARON — A business owner’s suggestion that the town draft an ordinance to allow food trucks was heard by the Board of Selectmen at their regular meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 8. The selectmen held the meeting at Town Hall, with the public participating by Zoom.

SHARON — Oscar Martinez in Sharon was clearing leaves on Dec. 4 when he “heard noise, looked up and he/she stared back.” By contacting a neighbor who is a birder and by then contacting Sharon Audubon, Martinez was able to identify this owl as a northern saw-whet.

The town Green in Sharon was alight on Sunday night, Dec. 13, with an array of seasonal observances, including a menorah celebrating Hanukkah; the colorful holiday tree (not in photo); and hundreds of luminaria placed around the perimeter. The luminaria were a fundraiser for the Sharon volunteer ambulance.
SHARON — Sharon Hospital President Dr. Mark K. Hirko described the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the hospital during a community forum (online) held Monday, Dec. 14.
The hospital took a number of precautionary measures in the spring, as the pandemic spread rapidly, Hirko said.

SHARON — The Hotchkiss Library of Sharon invited youngsters to meet Santa outdoors and chat about gifts and wishes. The visit was postponed to Sunday from Saturday, when wet weather had washed out the town’s holiday plans, including the lighting of the luminaria on the Green. They are expected to be on display on Saturday, Dec.
SHARON — Sharon Hospital, part of Nuvance Health, will host an online Community Update from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14.
In the virtual webinar, Sharon Hospital President Dr. Mark Hirko will discuss the latest hospital developments and updates on the affiliation that created Nuvance Health.
