SHARON — Don’t go to the town Green to return borrowed books or look for new titles to take out from the Hotchkiss Library of Sharon. The shelves of the venerable 1893 Richardson-ian style library have been temporarily emptied so renovation work can be done that will enlarge it and make it more fully accessible.
A highlight of the 60th anniversary party at the Sharon Pharmacy was the presence of Kathryn Heacox-Hayden, who together with her late husband Ed Heacox opened the doors of the new business on July 3, 1961. SHARON — Sharon Pharmacy threw a magnificent anniversary party to celebrate 60 years to the day of serving its community since its opening on July 3, 1961. The whole Heacox family was there to welcome the public to a birthday bash with generous hospitality.
SHARON — The torrential rain stopped just long enough for the Sharon Historical Society to hold its biannual Let Them Eat Cake auction and fundraiser on Friday evening, July 2.
SHARON — The introduction of public art in the form of four new murals on West Main Street was enough to bring folks out of their homes for an afternoon of conviviality on Saturday, July 3. It was a well-planned low-key outdoor event, proof that the pandemic is on the wane.
SHARON — Gypsy moths are making a periodic appearance in the area, this being the first year of their expected cycle, according to a report heard at the regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday, June 22.
SHARON — Calling for action to curtail speeding motorists, more than 35 Sharon residents attended a forum on Wednesday, June 23, on speeding at the pavilion at Veteran’s Field to hear from a traffic expert as well as from each other.
SHARON — Families and eighth graders spread out in a semi circle on the lawn in front of Sharon Center School on a beautiful evening for an (almost) traditional promotions ceremony on June 16 for the 17 students in the Class of 2021.
SHARON — The learning environment will be more comfortable for students and teachers at Sharon Center School (SCS) thanks to the unanimous approval of installation of air conditioning at the school.
The vote was held at a town meeting on Thursday, June 17, held in person at the school and on Zoom.
SALISBURY/SHARON — Longtime residents of Salisbury and Sharon will no doubt rejoice to learn that the swap shop at the Salisbury/Sharon transfer station will open on Thursday, July 1.
