Town Hall elevator repair to proceed

SHARON — With the Town Hall elevator out of order, the Board of Finance held its regular meeting at Sharon Center School on Tuesday, Jan. 17,  and unanimously approved an expenditure to cover the replacement of the elevator’s entire power unit.

Building official Stan MacMillan obtained two repair proposals from Otis Elevator Company. One solution would replace only the pump ($43,502) and the other would replace the power unit, including both the pump and the motor ($57,514). Repairs are expected to take two or three weeks. The elevator is expected to be inoperative until mid-February.

Rather than calling for a town meeting to approve the expense and incurring the delay involved, Town Treasurer Tina Pitcher suggested the selectmen are allowed to increase their budget line items by up to $20,000.

Following discussion, the finance board agreed that the budget line increases will be explained when the town budget for FY2024 is presented for public review.
