Rosa Rua

ASHLEY FALLS — Rosa Rua, 85,  an excellent woman, mother, and friend died after a recent illness, June 28, 2010, at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington.  

Rosa was born in Medellin, Colombia on April, 2, 1925. She came to the United States in 1996 to be with her children and grandchildren. For the past 12 years she divided her time  between North Canaan, and Ashley Falls,  where she helped raise her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her 12 sons and daughters, Antonio Arango, Ruth Arango, Diana Arango, Yeli Arango, Armando Arango, German Arango and Mario Arango, all of the United States, and Nelida Arango, Mary Arango, Elquin Arango, William Arango and Carlos Mario Arango, all of Colombia; 30 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Birches-Roy Funeral Home in Great Barrington. Her ashes will rest in peace in her natal city of Medellin.

We appreciate and want to express our gratitude to everyone, especially, Fairview Hospital, for their care of our mother and always doing the impossible to keep her with us as long as possible.

Although her presence is absent her warmth and love will always be present in our hearts.

Water main cleaning in North Canaan

NORTH CANAAN – Aquarion Water Company today announced a water main cleaning project in the company’s North Canaan system. Blues legend Robert Cray will be bringing his stinging, funky guitar and soulful singing to Infinity Hall Norfolk on Friday, March 29.

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.

Cabaret comes to St. Andrew's in Kent

Music in the Nave will again tap into local talent April 6 at 7 p.m. when its features George Potts in an intimate cabaret concert in the St. Andrew’s Church parish house.

Pott is a well-known figure in the community, both through his presence in the perennially popular Fife ‘n Drum, the restaurant started by his father-in-law, renowned pianist Dolph Trayman, and through his own career as a folk musician.
