Riiska returns

WINSTED — William O. Riiska of Norfolk is getting a second shot at running for the 63rd District state House of Representatives seat.

Riiska, an attorney and son of former Winsted Mayor William T. Riiska, was chosen unanimously by Democratic delegates to run against Republican incumbent John Rigby at a May 25 meeting at Winsted Town Hall.

Rigby was elected amid controversy in 2008 when then-Democratic incumbent George Wilber was involved in a sex scandal late in the campaign season. Riiska was chosen as a last-minute replacement candidate for the Democrats but could only be included on the ballot as a write-in candidate. He received 30 percent of the vote.

Rigby has also been chosen by a unanimous vote of party delegates to run for a second term.

The 63rd District includes the towns of Winsted, Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Hartland, Norfolk, Falls Village and North Canaan.
