May is Mental Health Month

DUTCHESS COUNTY — Each May the nation recognizes an important marker — Mental Health Awareness Month — and it’s been doing so since 1949. That is because of a group called Mental Health America (MHA), once known as the National Association for Mental Health.

HARLEM VALLEY — Honoring the men and women who lost their lives while serving in the military, Dutchess County municipalities will be holding Memorial Day commemorations throughout the region this Monday, May 30 (with some exceptions), to honor those willing to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

ANCRAMDALE — On Friday, May 13, when Ronald Osofsky passed away, this area lost someone who has often been described as an icon. He was a successful business man, a hard worker and an innovative farmer. Most of all he was a man who loved the land, his family, being a good neighbor, giving back to the community and remaining true to himself.

Art, architecture book sale made possible by anonymous donor

STANFORDVILLE — A special treat for art lovers of all sorts awaits them at both the Stanford Free Library and at the Bangallworks work space this weekend.

The “rare opportunity to purchase books at a great discount from a carefully curated collection,” exists, according to Stanford Free Library Director Christa Cerul.
