Norfolk Icebox Cafe plans opening on Memorial Day at Station Place

NORFOLK — After more than 10 years owning and running Rex Cafe in Hell’s Kitchen and five years managing the iconic Mermaid Inn in Chelsea and Red Rooster in Harlem, New York City restaurateur Peter Crippen and his wife, Marinell Madden-Crippen, plan to bring their culinary expertise to the historic Station Place in downtown Norfolk.

Charlotte Shutts: Roe Jan Library Friend to the end

COPAKE —  Charlotte Shutts, the late former president of the Friends of the Roeliff Jansen Library, who died in December 2022, proved to be a friend right to the end as she bequeathed a final gift, which has allowed the library to retire the $232,000 remainder of the mortgage for its new building that opened in 2012.

The consensus in many states, including Connecticut, is that communities are safer, happier and healthier when their residents’ basic needs are met at both state and local levels.

School districts prepare for votes

Three local school districts are working on budgets, and clerks are standing ready to accept candidates’ petitions, all in preparation for the Tuesday, May 16, vote for school board members and budgets for the 2023-’24 school year. Candidates have until Monday, April 17, at 5 p.m. to submit their petitions for candidacy.
