MORRIS — Luminaries and environmentalists turned out en masse on Sunday, Nov. 20 to support the Housatonic Valley Association’s (HVA) 30th Auction for the Environment, raising an estimated $171,000, which is a record breaker, during the gala affair at South Farms in Morris.
On a balmy Thursday evening in November, staying indoors to attend the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies’ virtual talk, “Predicting the Next Pandemic with AI and Ecology” featuring Barbara Han, a disease ecologist, proved interesting and informative — even as the science discussed spelled out a difficult road ahead.
NORFOLK — An informational meeting was held Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Botelle Elementary School to address residents’ questions regarding the Nov. 5 rollover of a tanker truck that spilled more than 8,000 gallons of gasoline into the town’s drainage system.
The results from the state and local elections on Tuesday, Nov. 8 revealed a few surprises and some close races in Dutchess County.
Michelle Hinchey (D, WF) beat long-time State Senator Sue Serino (R,C,I) in the 41st Senate District race, 72,149 votes to Serino’s 65,557.

Every one of us is familiar with invasive species. They are the bright yellow dandelions dotting our lawns, the startlingly green honeysuckles spilling over our roadsides, and the swarming spongy moth caterpillars prematurely emptying our forest’s canopy last summer. But what is it that makes these organisms so invasive in the first place?

NORFOLK — Well-known for housing five stained-glass windows designed by none other than Louis Comfort Tiffany, the Battell Chapel in Norfolk is also home to the Norfolk Food Pantry.
Volunteer Director Lynn Deasy said though the pantry has been in existence for decades, “it’s really taken shape in the past 15 years.”
Connecticut is rarely in the spotlight when it comes to House races or part of the equation for how Republicans seek to build a majority in Congress. But this year has been a major exception, with the 5th District becoming a hotly contested battleground awash with millions of dollars in spending.
