NORTH CANAAN — Victor D. Vargas passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 23, 2020, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.

He was born April 30, 1943, in Medellin, Colombia, to Victor Vargas and Ana Mejia. 

He married Ruth Arango, the love of his life, in 1969, who survives him. 

Victor is also survived by his son, Victor Jr.; his daughters, Kristabel and Grace; and his three grandchildren, Aaliyah and Federico Vargas and Annabella Guete-Vargas.

Victor migrated to the United States in 1991 and has been a resident of North Canaan since. He was an active employee of Berkshire School for 17 years. 

Victor was a cheerful gentleman who had a passion for soccer and music. He loved to spend time with his family and will be truly missed. His sense of humor, kindness and love for his family will remain alive forever.

A private ceremony to celebrate his life will take place on Saturday, May 2. The Vargas family would like to express our most sincere gratitude for all of the love and support received during this difficult time.

Water main cleaning in North Canaan

NORTH CANAAN – Aquarion Water Company today announced a water main cleaning project in the company’s North Canaan system. The project is scheduled to take place from Monday, April 1 through Tuesday, April 16, and is being undertaken to ensure customers in North Canaan continue to receive the highest quality water.

Blues legend Robert Cray will be bringing his stinging, funky guitar and soulful singing to Infinity Hall Norfolk on Friday, March 29.

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.

Cabaret comes to St. Andrew's in Kent

Music in the Nave will again tap into local talent April 6 at 7 p.m. when its features George Potts in an intimate cabaret concert in the St. Andrew’s Church parish house.

Pott is a well-known figure in the community, both through his presence in the perennially popular Fife ‘n Drum, the restaurant started by his father-in-law, renowned pianist Dolph Trayman, and through his own career as a folk musician.
