For now, no more Mizza’s in Sharon

SHARON — As of this week, the popular Mizza’s Pizza stand at the Sharon Farm Market is no longer open. Owner Eddie “Mizza” Canie said he’s understaffed at the moment and needs to consolidate all his workers at the Lakeville Mizza’s Pizza restaurant, which will remain open.“I want to send a huge apology to all my customers,” Canie said in an interview this week. “I hate to let everyone down but I’m having trouble finding workers and there’s a lot going on in my life, I just don’t have enough time to keep the pizza stand open.”Sharon Farm Market’s Joseph Choe said that he’s meeting with Canie this week to “hash out a game plan.”At the moment, he said, there are no plans to replace Mizza’s with another vendor.Canie stressed that the Sharon Farm Market management was fantastic and that his decision to close down is not a reflection on the ownership in any way.“They’re very good people at the market,” he said. “My problem is that right now, I’m working alone.”

The artistic life of Joelle Sander

"Flowers" by the late artist and writer Joelle Sander.

Cornwall Library

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.
