Northwest Corner turns out for Habitat

SALISBURY — The weather was as delicious as the beverages at the Wine Tasting and Silent/Live Auction Gala celebrating the 20th anniversary of Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Connecticut on Saturday, July 16. Tents were set up around the periphery of the lawn at the expansive Four Winds estate of the Harris family, keeping attendees out of the sun as they bid on auction items and tasted wines supplied by Little Gates wine merchants of Millerton. The large crowd of area supporters of Habitat was entertained by musician Scott Heth, and by cast members from TriArts Sharon Playhouse’s current production of “Rent.”Habitat board member Jane Pinckney of Lakeville, who was a co-chair of the committee for the gala, wore a live corsage that was a gift from her co-chair (and Habitat executive director) John Pogue. “He was so kind to do that,” she said.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
