Many articles in recent and future weeks in The Lakeville Journal are about the budget process.
Each town in the state has to put together two budgets each year, one for municipal spending and one for education spending.
During the quarantine, we are trying to run articles with information of use to newcomers and full-time residents alike; we hope you will save these up in case you need them.
We hope this won’t be the case but it’s possible you will need the help of a funeral director while you are up here.
So far Litchfield County is one of the counties with the fewest confirmed cases of COVID-19. As of press time, there had been one death in the county (see story, Page A1).
Careful readers will have noticed that the second page of The Lakeville Journal usually features the Police Blotter. The items we include are taken from the log book that is easily accessible to all members of the public in the front lobby of the State Police Troop B barracks on Route 7 in North Canaan.
It’s the Northwest Corner tradition to reach out and help, in good times and bad. Volunteerism is largely what makes this part of the world such a lovely place to be (and exactly the locale you’d like to escape to during a global emergency such as the one we are experiencing now).
So far everyone seems to be getting along pretty well, but the grumbling is already beginning as people who live here full time are coming up against a large and rapid influx of part-time residents seeking refuge at their homes here, as well as renters who might or might not be familiar with the Northwest Corner and its traditions.
