Small plane crashes after take-off in North Canaan

NORTH CANAAN — The investigation into the crash of a small airplane in North Canaan on Thursday evening, Oct. 14, is now in the hands of the National Transportation Safety Board.

The single-engine plane crashed shortly after takeoff from the airport in North Canaan, near West Main Street and the town’s transfer station.

Uniting with one voice to help those silenced by abuse

NORTH CANAAN — The annual vigil in honor of lives lost to domestic violence was held this year in North Canaan at the Lawrence Field Pavilion. The vigil is held in different area towns each year because domestic violence isn’t specific to one place, it is everywhere.

Grassroots club stays grounded in tradition

NORTH CANAAN —When the Northwest Connecticut Rod and Gun Club in North Canaan was founded, Gerry Routhier was barely a toddler. Seventy-five years later, he has seen it evolve from a plot of land encompassed by woods into a community service organization with hundreds of members.

NCES students inspired to draw from local history

NORTH CANAAN — As an activity of the Community Connections initiative at North Canaan Elementary School (NCES), students in all grades came together to create images in sidewalk chalk all around the school grounds on Friday, Oct. 1.

Cannons sound and bagpipes lament

 

NORTH CANAAN — At 8:46 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, a cannon boomed and bagpipe music began at the Church of St. Joseph on Route 44. 

It was part of a ceremony remembering the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
