In some manner the finger was caught between the door and casing at the school house, causing an injury necessitating the service of a physician. 50 years ago — March 1962 After five hours on the operating table last Tuesday afternoon, Dr. Paul Stoddard, Housatonic Valley Regional High School principal, was reported in good condition and “coming along nicely,” so reported Dr. Robert Fisher to the Regional Board of Education at its monthly meeting last Tuesday night. State police on Monday charged Dr. Stoddard with reckless driving as a result of the accident a month ago in which he was seriously injured and Mrs. Stoddard suffered a concussion. It is considered possible he momentarily dozed off just before the head-on crash. Falling asleep at the wheel is classified as “reckless driving” in Connecticut.Mrs. Joseph O’Loughlin is absent from her duties at the Lakeville Post Office. She is being treated for pneumonia at her home on Elm Street.SHARON— The old Bartram Inn, briefly the Ashmere Inn, has a rollicking new name, Sharon-On-The-Green, and a trio of young people as its new owners. Pat Brennan, his wife Jane, and her brother, Ross Hohn, expect to open the week of April 15. 25 years ago — March 1987 Beth Hammond gave a letter perfect presentation Monday to win Salisbury Central School’s annual spelling bee. Beth, daughter of Gail and J. Dean Hammond of Salisbury, became the champion speller in the junior high when she correctly spelled “retrospect.” Taken from decades-old Lake-ville Journals, these items contain original spellings and phrases.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”

Blues legend Robert Cray will be bringing his stinging, funky guitar and soulful singing to Infinity Hall Norfolk on Friday, March 29.

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.
