Nygren of New Hartford wins honors with Post’s Western team

WATERBURY — Amanda Nygren of New Hartford had an excellent showing during the Post University’s Western team’s first show of the semester on Feb. 11 at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.Nygren won her horsemanship class at the event and placed fourth in the second show later in the day. Her teammate, senior and team coach Brooke Fowler of Meriden, earned second and third place in reining, and also placed fourth in horsemanship. Newcomer to the team, Grace McConnell, an international student from Leeds, England, riding in her first Western competition, also won a fourth-place award in horsemanship.On Feb. 18, Post University hosted a show at Sand Hill Farm in Portland, Conn., the team’s home base. This was a first for the young team. This time Fowler earned second place while Nygren placed fifth in horsemanship.
