Columbia County Police Report 3-8-12

The following information was provided by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are considered innocent until found guilty in a court of law.LarcenyOn Sunday, Feb. 5, at 3:45 p.m., Columbia County Deputy Sheriff Travis VanAlstyne arrested Tommy Linkous, 30, of Route 23, Copake, on a charge of petit larceny. Linkous stole merchandise valued in excess of $38 from the Greenport Walmart store. Arraigned in the Greenport Town Justice Court by Town Justice Robert Brenzel, Linkous was remanded to the county jail in lieu of $500 cash or $1,000 bail bond and directed to return to town court Monday, Feb. 13, at 4 p.m.Multiple chargesOn Friday, Feb. 3, at 11:25 p.m., following a traffic stop on Church Street in the town of Copake by Columbia County Deputy Sheriffs Christopher Link and Ian Boehme, Marcel Rawls was charged with the class E felony of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree. Rawls had multiple suspensions of his driving privileges which resulted in the felony charge. Additionally, Rawls was also charged with inadequate license plate lamp, operating without a driver’s license and having a child not secured by a safety restraint device/no child seat for a child under 4 years of age. Arraigned in the Copake Town Court by Justice John Spencer, Rawls was remanded to the county jail in lieu of $500 cash or $1,000 bail and directed to return to town court Monday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m.Filing a false reportOn Sunday, Jan. 29, at 4:30 p.m., Columbia County Deputy Sheriff David Rose arrested Christy Smith, 33, of Tims Road, Ancram, on a charge of falsely reporting an incident in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor. Smith contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report a larceny to her residence that did not occur. Released with an appearance ticket, Smith was directed to appear in the Ancram Town Court Wednesday, Feb. 29, at 6 p.m.

Water main cleaning in North Canaan

NORTH CANAAN – Aquarion Water Company today announced a water main cleaning project in the company’s North Canaan system. The project is scheduled to take place from Monday, April 1 through Tuesday, April 16, and is being undertaken to ensure customers in North Canaan continue to receive the highest quality water.

Tuning up two passions under one roof

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
