Town report contains tidbits of town lore
FALLS VILLAGE — The 2011 annual town report is printed and available at Town Hall. The annual town meeting is Thursday, March 22, 7 p.m. at Town Hall.Some stats from the report:• The population of Falls Village is 1,099, spread out over 33.4 square miles.• The Town of Canaan, which is the town’s official title, is now in the 64th State Assembly District and represented in the state House of Representatives by Roberta Willis (D). Prior to redistricting, the town was in the 63rd District and represented by John Rigby (R).• Falls Village has seven constables and 15 justices of the peace.• In the 2010-11 fiscal year the town clerk’s office placed 272 documents on the land records and collected fees on 191 documents. Land records going back to Jan. 1, 1983, can now be searched, copied and purchased electronically.• As of June 29, 2011, the town had 247 registered Democrats, 197 Republicans, 263 unaffiliated voters and two “other” voters, for a total of 709.• Building official Ernest B. Sinclair reports that in the 2010-11 fiscal year 137 building permits were issued, for interior renovations, additions, garages and repairs. This total includes two new single family home permits and two demolition permits; and 12 Certificates of Occupancy were issued.• A total of 128 dogs was licensed between July 1, 2010, and June 30, 2011.• The Recreation Commission now has a Facebook page for residents to keep up with events.
