Housatonic student of the week
The Lakeville Journal congratulates the honorees of the student of the week program at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. FALLS VILLAGE — When Felicitas Eckert left Offenberg, Germany, to spend a year living in Falls Village with the Downs family, she had no idea how appropriate a placement it would be. But with a name like hers (after the Roman goddess of good fortune), she was bound to get lucky. The Downs family is like her own in many ways, explains Feli: both are gregarious and musical, with a passion for public service. In her hometown in the southwest of Germany, Feli learned to speak German and English, as well as the French spoken just over the border from her village. With the addition of Spanish during the eighth grade, Feli has become a linguistic virtuosa whose German accent is barely distinguishable in typical conversations. As a result, she has fit right into life at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, plying her violin, piano, bass and voice talents in various choirs, and trying her hand at field hockey and, this spring, lacrosse. Feli is accustomed to such adaptation, as she had traveled to all corners of the globe by the tender age of 15. Her worldly, cosmopolitan demeanor is the product of her travels not only within the European Union, but to such far-flung locations as Paraguay, Australia and now, Falls Village. Although Feli is unsure where her life’s journey will take her after high school, she is well-equipped to go just about anywhere, and we are glad to be one step along her way.
