SVAS At Your Service

SALISBURY —The Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service (SVAS) is an all-volunteer organization whose members are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to emergencies in the community.SVAS responded to 37 calls in January. These included six dispatches for a sick person, four motor vehicle accidents, three calls for difficulty breathing, three standbys, three falls, one search and rescue and one call each for a dog bite, an assault, a choking, a traumatic injury and a psychiatric incident. Two calls were to assist Lake­ville Hose Co.; both were for activated fire alarms. Seven of the calls were for residents of Noble Horizons. There were eight days when the ambulance crew was dispatched two times and four days when the crew was dispatched three times.The squad held its annual elections for officers in January. They are: Chief Jacquie Rice, Assistant Chief Kaki Schafer Reid, First Aid Chief Pat Barton, Rescue Chief Mike Brenner and Secretary Fran Yerkes.The squad responded to 34 calls in February. These included seven dispatches for a fall, five for a sick person, three motor vehicle accidents and three standbys (for the SWSA ski jumps), two calls for difficulty breathing, two for chest pain and two psychiatric incidents and one call each for a traumatic injury, back pain, abnormal behavior, fainting and a cardiac event. Three calls were to assist Lakeville Hose Co. Seven of the calls were for residents of Noble Horizons. Two of the calls resulted in a refusal to be transported. There were 10 days when the ambulance crew was dispatched two times, two days when the squad responded three times and one day when the crew was dispatched four times. Water main cleaning in North Canaan

NORTH CANAAN – Aquarion Water Company today announced a water main cleaning project in the company’s North Canaan system. The project is scheduled to take place from Monday, April 1 through Tuesday, April 16, and is being undertaken to ensure customers in North Canaan continue to receive the highest quality water.

Tuning up two passions under one roof

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
