Kent Hotshots advance to state contest
KENT — Four Kent youngsters will compete in the state Hotshots Contest in Stratford on March 25. They are the winners of the Kent Hotshots contest held at Kent Center School on Feb. 25. The annual Hotshots contest is sponsored by the Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association. Locally, it is supervised by Lesly Ferris, director of Kent’s Park and Recreation department.The contest matches participants’ basketball shooting skills against the clock. Boys and girls ages 9 to15 have three 1-minute rounds in which to attempt baskets from five different “hot spots” on half of the basketball court.Top scorers in Kent were: boys ages 9 and 10, Cesar Brito, age 10, 81 points; boys 11 and 12, Tommy Soderstrom, 11, 50 points; girls 11 and 12, Nicole You, 12, 48 points; and boys 13 and 15, Ivan Rojas, 13, 66 points.
