The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Car hits embankment
Conner Benson, 18, of Barkhamsted was driving east on Route 318 in Barkhamsted Feb. 5. At about 5:31 p.m., he turned to avoid a deer crossing the road. The 2002 Ford Explorer went off the road. It hit a dirt embankment. It rolled onto its roof. Benson was not injured. He was charged with making an improper turn.
Car hits ditch
Barbara Goulet, 77, of Winsted was driving east on Route 44 in Barkhamsted Feb. 7. At about 7:49 a.m., her Suzuki Aerio went off the right shoulder and into a drainage ditch. It sustained front end damage. Goulet was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with a possible injury. She was charged with making a restricted turn.
Austin Spring, 18, of New Hartford turned himself in on a warrant Feb. 8 stemming from an investigation into damaged mailboxes in on Cotton Hill Road in New Hartford Sept. 14, 2011. He was charged with two counts of criminal mischief. Bond was set at $1,500. He is to appear in Bantam Superior Court Feb. 21.
A 17-year old male from Colebrook turned himself in on a warrant Feb. 8 in connection with an incident on Honey Hill Road in New Hartford. The juvenile was charged with criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny and interfering with a police officer. Bond was set at $10,000. He was to appear in Bantam Superior Court that day.
Car hits guardrail
David Ohotnicky, 45, of Torrington was driving east on Route 202 in New Hartford Feb. 11. At about 8:01 a.m., he lost control on a snow and slush covered curve. The 1997 Jeep Cherokee slid sideways off the right shoulder. It hit a guardrail. Ohotnicky was not injured. He was given a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Car hits plow
Carly Bitzer, 17, of Barkhamsted was driving east on Route 44 in Barkhamsted Feb. 11. At about 9:50 a.m., she turned left onto Route 318. She cut the turn too short. The 2012 VW Passat sideswiped a plow mounted on a 2001 Ford F350 stopped on Route 318 at the intersection. The truck was driven by Robert Pasqua, 35, of Harwinton. The entire left side of the car was damaged. There were no injuries. No enforcement was noted.
Driver critically injured
Muriel Guerrette, 50, of Barkhamsted was driving south on Warner Road in Barkhamsted Feb. 12. At about 6:10 p.m., about .2-mile south of Ratlum Mountain Road, she lost control. The 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee, registered to Gary Patnode, of the same address, went off the left shoulder. It hit and sheared a large tree. The tree fell on and damaged wires. The car sustained major damage. Guerrette was flown by Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries. She was listed in critical condition. Excessive speed appeared to be a factor in the accident. It remains under investigation.
