Ralph Joseph Hedus
NORTH CANAAN — Ralph Joseph Hedus, 81, of Cedar Lane died Feb. 2, 2012, with his family at his side at the Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Ralph was the husband of Evelyn (Emacora) Hedus. They were married on June 16, 1951, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last June. Ralph was born Sept. 8, 1931, in New Milford, the son of the late Frances (Pomeroy) and William Hedus.Ralph was a salesman for the Agway Corporation for more than 20 years. Prior to that he had worked as a milk tester for the DHIA. Ralph was a graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School. After high school he went to the University of Connecticut and earned an associate degree in agriculture. He was a life member of the Grange, holding memberships at the former Laurel Grange in East Canaan and also the Riverton Grange. He was a member of the Housatonic Valley Regional High School FFA Alumni Association. He collected antique bottles, and was an early advocate for the environment. He was a fan of the Red Sox and all things Disney.In addition to his wife, Ralph is survived by his eldest daughter, Jo-ann Hedus Cascardi, and her husband, Andrew, of Wilmington, N.C.; their three children, Laura Cascardi of Fort Collins, Colo., and her two children, Althaea and Arbor; Mark Cascardi of Wilmington, Vt.; Karen Cascardi of Raleigh, N.C.; his youngest daughter Judie Provencher of Holmes, N.Y., and her daughter, Tiffany Provencher, of New York City; his brother, David Hedus, and his aunt, Beulah Pomeroy, both of Zellwood, Fla.; his brother-in-law, Peter Emacora, and his companion, Evan Hughes, both of Norfolk; and his loving extended family. Ralph was predeceased by his grandson, Scott Provencher; and his brother, William Hedus.A celebration of Ralph’s life was held Feb. 5 at the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.
