Housatonic student of the week
The Lakeville Journal congratulates the honorees of the student of the week program at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. FALLS VILLAGE — Sometimes, one story can encapsulate a person. Two years ago, Morgan Riley, a senior at Housatonic, was in Austria playing soccer on a composite team with players from around the world in the People-to-People exchange program. Toward the end of the trip, one of her teammates took an illicit substance, leading the team to be concerned about her well-being. Morgan volunteered to alert the coach, who was able to intervene for the safety of the player. The team got together to thank Morgan with a bouquet of blue roses, which she promptly redistributed, one to each member of the team. Most importantly, however, the player in question approached Morgan the following morning as she was about to board her flight home to offer her a note of thanks for the intervention.Morgan is a dedicated soccer player, who has been playing year-round since sixth grade, but this story communicates her compassion and friendly, approachable personality. She is considering a career in psychology, where she can apply the keen listening skills that she has honed during family dinners that can include as many as 16 cousins, four of whom attend Housatonic Valley at the moment, lending a particular “family” atmosphere to our student body.
