Diversión con el español at Sharon Center School
SHARON — Diversión con el español is a Spanish club for students in grades three to six at Sharon Center School. It is part of the initiative of the Arts and Cultural Committee to support the Spanish program. The school is working in partnership with its own Spanish teacher, Kerry O’Toole; The Hotchkiss School’s instructor in Spanish, Ana Hermoso, and her students, many of whom come from Columbia, Mexico, and Spain; as well as people in our local Spanish-speaking community. The mission of Diversión con el español is to teach our students more about the Spanish language and experience a connection with Spanish-speaking cultures through conversation and hands-on activities. To date they have explored the traditional celebration of Three Kings Day, experienced popular sports played in Spanish-speaking countries and studied the ancient Mayans, Aztecs and Incas. Each meeting begins with a delicious dish prepared by local people who make up our Spanish-speaking friends and neighbors. The students have tasted traditional foods from Guatemala, Mexico and Argentina. Diversión con el español meets on Wednesdays from 3 to 4 p.m. through Feb. 29.
