Volunteer positions: two down, one to go
NORTH EAST — Town Supervisor John Merwin was happy to announce at the Thursday, Jan. 19, Town Board meeting that two very capable volunteers have stepped forward to fill vacant seats on both the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) and the Planning Board. The ZBA has been in search of new members since last year; the Planning Board since the start of this year. Both Edith Greenwood and Stephen Valyou applied for the positions. They were promptly thanked, and at the January meeting Greenwood was appointed to the ZBA and Valyou to the Planning Board. Valyou will be filling longtime Planning Board member Harry Schroeder’s seat; Schroeder decided not to reapply for the position this year.Merwin said he was pleased to be able to make the appointments so soon after the start of the year.“This board does not want to see vacancies sit,” he said. “Two people just had very impressive [resumes], not only with their qualifications but also their desire to help the community.“They’re both excellent,” Merwin added. “Stephen has good common sense, and the fact that he wants to do this is super. Edie, too. Hopefully we’ll get people who want to do these positions.”There remains one more open spot on the ZBA. Those interested in volunteering to serve on the board may submit their name, phone number and a letter of interest to the Town Hall at 19 North Maple Ave., Millerton 12546.
