Kathleen Frances Ann Thompson-Carroll
AMENIA — Kathleen Frances Ann Thompson-Carroll died peacefully at home Jan. 17, 2012, surrounded by her family and her friends after a long battle with cancer.Kathleen was born at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 17, 1960, the daughter of Kathleen (Campbell) and Robert F. Thompson. Having lost her parents in her first year of life, she was raised and adopted by Patricia and Edmond Ahearn of Amenia. Kathleen attended Immaculate Conception School and Webutuck elementary and high schools, graduating in 1978.She attended Wheelock College in Boston and graduated from the University of Houston in Texas. She was a member of Psi Chi and Mortar Board. She received a Bachelor of Science in psychology.Although she had many jobs throughout her life, her two favorites were at Maplebrook School and Oblong Books and Music. Children, books and trees were her passions.On June 24, 1998, she married David Todd Carroll who survives at home. In addition to her husband, Kathleen is survived by three brothers, Robert M. Thompson of Amenia, Bruce and his wife, Grace Ahearn, of Poughkeepsie and Kevin and his wife, Kathleen Ahearn, of Amenia; her sisters, Irene Ahearn of Millerton, Kelly and her husband, Scott Kilmer, of Stanfordville and Valeda and her husband, Glenn MacDonald, of Oxford, N.Y.; as well as many cousins and friends, whom she considered sisters, and many nieces and nephews.Kathleen was predeceased by her adopted parents, Edmond and Patricia Ahearn; her sister, Patricia Ahearn; and her twin brother, Michael.A gathering to celebrate her life will be held at the American Legion Post 178 on Route 44 in Millerton on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 1 to 5 p.m. Memorial donations may be sent to the NorthEast Community Center, 51 South Center St., Millerton, NY 12546. Burial will be private in the spring.
