Special meeting Jan. 26

PINE PLAINS — The Town Board will host a special meeting on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 4 p.m. to discuss a draft law regarding the town’s participation in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) National Flood Insurance Program.Attorney to the Town Warren Replansky told the board at its Jan. 19 meeting that it must submit a draft law to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) by Thursday, Feb. 2, for review in order to maintain eligibility for the insurance program.“All municipalities received short notice to comply,” Replansky said. The DEC has already prepared a draft model law for each municipality. Replansky said the board needs “to make some decisions” regarding the draft at the Jan. 26 meeting, which he said shouldn’t be difficult.Once the board receives approval from the DEC, it can start working on the local law adoption process. Replansky said that won’t take long, but it needs to be done by April 2 to stay on schedule. The Town Board will have the ability to conduct business at the Jan. 26 meeting, which will be held at Town Hall.
