Singers muster up lots of courage at VFW karaoke night

WINSTED — It may have been below 10 degrees outside, but a hot time was had by all inside The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Seicheprey Post 296 during karaoke night on Friday, Jan. 13.Ginger Newman, along with Josh Ginsberg, provided the karaoke machine at the event.Newman and Ginsberg call themselves “Liquid Courage.”“Because it takes liquid courage to get up here and sing in front of people,” Newman said. “People seem to sing better after they drink a certain form of liquid.”Newman said that karaoke nights at the VFW have been held on an irregular basis for the past seven years.“We usually get a good crowd,” she said. “The idea is to get everyone up here to sing. When you sing, you have to feel it from the heart.”The karaoke machine provided by “Liquid Courage” had access to over 200,000 songs, giving singers a wide range of choices.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
