Marion (Pader) Hein
NORTH CANAAN — Marion (Pader) Hein, 83, of Kent, widow of Erick K. Hein, died Dec. 30, 2011, at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Mrs. Hein was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Linden, N.J., daughter of Wilhelmina (Tonn) and Emil Pader. Her father was the caretaker of the Rosehill Cemetery in Linden where the family lived and Marion was born.Marion’s family grew up hearing many interesting stories over the years, including how she had witnessed the Hindenberg disaster. Marion, being a leap year baby, gave her kids great joy when they became “older” than their mother. They are so sorry that she narrowly missed her “21st” birthday by a few months. After her mother died, when Marion was 10 years old, she moved to Terryville where she later met and married Erick. They moved to Kent in 1959, to start and run the Kent Pharmacy, until they sold it in 1968. They had bought the Kent Railroad Station where Marion had a gift shop for many years. After her retirement, Marion became a homemaker. She enjoyed her family above all else.Marion is survived by her daughter, Marla D. Hein; her son, Kurt E. Hein and his wife, Sandra Hein; her daughter, Carol N. Trotta and her husband, Jay Trotta; her daughter, Laura H. Eckel and her husband, Edwin S. Eckel; her grandchildren, Jonathan L. Trotta, Clytie L. Trotta, Emily M. Eckel and Avery E. Eckel; and her great-grandson, Erick J. Trotta.A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon with a service following at The Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7 Bolton Hill Road, Cornwall, CT 06753 or to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.The Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan has charge of arrangements.
