Wreath adorns war memorial

SHARON — Sharon resident Glenn Dennis noticed this holiday season that there wasn’t a wreath on the war memorial in the center of town. He decided to fix that problem himself, and (after getting an OK from Ray Aakjar of the American Legion) drove to Housatonic Valley Regional High School to purchase a wreath grand enough to grace the stone monument. The FFA students and teachers running the holiday greenery shop at the high school donated a large and lovely wreath. Then Dennis proceeded to the Roaring Oaks florist shop in Sharon to get a suitable bow. “I felt a red, white and blue ribbon would be most appropriate,” he said. “They made a wonderfully full bow, and charged me nothing for it after I told them what it was for.”He and Charlene Whitney then brought the graceful greens to the memorial and “we had a little ceremony and placed the wreath on the monument. It really looks great.”
