William Tortorella wins his second geography bee

SHARON —William Tortorella was the champion (for the second consecutive year) of the Sharon Center School geography bee held Dec. 23. Tortorella was one of nine students who competed in the finals.School librarian Judy Gafney acted as moderator and read the questions to the students. The bee was an elimination contest. When a contestant gave two wrong answers, he or she was eliminated from the competition.Social studies teacher Steven Muthig presented William with the winner’s medal and explained he would go on to the state bee April 11 to 13 at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. The winner of that bee will participate in the National Geographic Bee to be held in Washington, D.C., May 22 to 24, hosted by Alex Trebek of Jeopardy.The geography bees are sponsored by National Geographic.
