New contracts, health-care plan for Region One staff

FALLS VILLAGE — Region One School District teachers have a new three-year contract that includes a 5.75 percent pay raise and an agreement to use the high-deductible plan as the base plan for health insurance.The contract was ironed out in mediation Nov. 15, ratified by the teachers Nov. 29 and by the board Dec. 5, according to Region One Business Manager Sam Herrick. It covers 89.2 full-time equivalent teachers at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, plus Pupil Services specialists and Title I teachers regionwide.Salaries will increase on average 1.95 percent in the first year of the contract and 1.9 percent in each succeeding year.If a teacher wishes to stay with the more expensive health insurance plan, he or she must make up the difference between the more expensive plan and the high-deductible plan. The teachers’ share of the high-deductible premium is 11 percent in the first year, 12 percent in the second year and 13 percent in the third.
