Yellowjackets win 43-14 on Thanksgiving Day
WINSTED — With bragging rights on the line, the Gilbert/Northwestern Yellowjackets rolled over the Housatonic/Wamogo Mountaineers in the Berkshire Bowl by a score of 43-14 on Thanksgiving Day.Yellowjacket Devon Molway scored four touchdowns, including a school record 95-yard run.With 4:17 left in the first, Nick Sullivan found Tony Ortiz Jr. with a 37-yard pass to give Gilbert a 6-0 lead.Four minutes into the second quarter, Molway ran left on a sweep, dodged a few tackles and ran 60 yards for another touchdown. Sullivan added the two-point conversion and the score was 14-0.Housatonic’s next possession was a three and out, but the punt pinned the Yellowjackets at their own five-yard line. Molway took the ball around the left side again and went 95 yards for the score. The extra point was blocked, but Gilbert now led 20-0.And with the half coming to a close, Gilbert scored again, with John Lippincott’s 25-yard pass to Robert Weiss. It was 26-0.The Yellowjackets opened the third quarter with a time-consuming drive, resulting in J.P. Duluc’s 30-yard field goal at 8:32 for a 29-0 lead.Molway scored again for a 36-0 lead (Duluc for the extra point). By the end of the third, it was 43-0.Finally, Jake Foley broke up the shutout with a five-yard touchdown run at 9:05 in the fourth. The point after failed and the score was 43-6.The Mountaineers scored again with a 75-yard run from Jake Sutterlin. With Foley’s two-point conversion, the final score was 43-14.Molway finished the day with 255 yards, while his Housatonic counterpart Sutterlin had 213.Gilbert committed one turnover to the Mountaineer’s four.
