Local man arrested for 8th DWI
NORTH EAST — Millerton resident Michael Moore, 42, was arrested for his eighth DWI on Saturday, Nov. 12, after he was observed operating his vehicle erratically on Route 361 (Sharon Road) in North East.Moore was charged with felony counts of driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree; the violation of unlawful possession of marijuana; and the traffic infraction of driving on the shoulder of a highway.According to the New York State Police press release, the trooper that stopped Moore “noted that Moore had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and that his speech was slurred.”After he failed a sobriety test, Moore was brought to the Dover Plains New York State Police barracks, where he refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.Moore was convicted of his first alcohol-related driving offense in 1988, which was before he was legally allowed to consume alcohol. His most recent conviction was for a DWI in Dover earlier this year. His other convictions have been in both Connecticut and New York.Moore has had his driver’s license revoked several times.After he was arrested, Moore’s vehicle was impounded. He was arraigned in the town of North East Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.His preliminary hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 15, but it did not take place. He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Nov. 21.
