Fall sports end with impressive records

HARLEM VALLEY — The fall sports season may have just ended, but the students at Webutuck and Stissing Mountain high schools are already practicing for the winter season. Both school districts played an impressive fall season, with several teams making it to sectionals or state finals.

Webutuck

Varsity Cross Country: Jesse Capellaro and Kayla Kohl made it to the state finals.

Capellaro placed 51st out of 120 runners; Kohl placed 59th out of 120 runners.

Girls Varsity Field Hockey: The team’s overall record was 5-8. The team beat Pine Plains and Onteora to win the Section 9 Class C championship.

Boys Varsity Soccer: The team’s overall record was 7-5-3. The team beat Chester in the quarterfinals, but lost to Tuxedo in the semifinals.

Girls Varsity Soccer: The team’s overall record was 9-3-3, with a division record of 4-1-1 and a league record of 5-3-2. The team lost the quarterfinals game to Chester.

Girls Varsity Volleyball: In the team’s first year back at the varsity level, the team’s overall record was 0-13.

Stissing Mountain

Varsity Cross Country: The team finished fifth out of 14 at the Mid-Hudson Athletic League (MHAL) championships.Devin deJoode qualified for the New York State Cross Country Championships, held in Verona on Saturday, Nov. 12. He finished 50th with a time of 19:05.

Girls Varsity Field Hockey: The team had an overall record of 8-6-2, with a division record of 4-0-0 and a league record of 5-2-2. The girls lost to Webutuck in the quarterfinals game.

Girls Junior Varsity Field Hockey: The team had an overall record of 7-1-4 and a league record of 5-0-3.

Boys Varsity Football: The team had an overall record of 2-6 and a league record of 1-3.

Varsity Golf: The team had an overall record of 0-10.

Boys Varsity Soccer: The team had an overall record of 3-13 and a league of 1-9.

Girls Modified Soccer: The team had an overall record of 4-3-1.

Girls Varsity Volleyball: The team had an overall record of 12-5 and a division record of 4-0.

Girls Junior Varsity Volleyball: The team had an overall record of 9-5 and a division record of 2-2.

Millbrook

Final sports records were unavailable for the Millbrook Central School District.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”

Blues legend Robert Cray will be bringing his stinging, funky guitar and soulful singing to Infinity Hall Norfolk on Friday, March 29.

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.
