Chilly townspeople served free pasta meal at Salisbury firehouse
SALISBURY — On Monday night there was a free pasta dinner at the firehouse, and the Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service (SVAS) set up a shelter at the upper building of Salisbury Central School. At about 7 p.m. Carol Magowan of SVAS was waiting on her first guests.The SVAS building on Route 41 served as a warming center, with a steady stream of visitors. Magowan said three people spent the night there Sunday. The shelter at the Salisbury Central School cafeteria has more capacity, with cots for up to 50 people.Magowan said the shelter provides the cot, a blanket and a pillow, and water and cocoa in the evening and coffee in the morning.And Magowan sent back to the ambulance building for half and half, a Scrabble board and a deck of cards.
