Auditions announced for ‘A Christmas Carol’
RIVERTON — A Christmas tradition in Barkhamsted’s village community of Riverton returns this December with the Riverton Theatre’s production of “A Christmas Carol,” Dec. 2, 3 and 4 at Riverton Congregational Church. Auditions for the production are under way for all roles, along with crew members and stage management positions.Producer John Morici said this week that rehearsals for the production will begin around Oct. 21 and that roles are immediately available for this musical production, which has been running for more than two decades in Riverton. “This is our 21st edition of ‘A Christmas Carol,’” Morici said. “Last year we took a year off. About 11 years ago we did a production of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life,’ and then went back to ‘A Christmas Carol.’”Throughout the past two decades, the Riverton Theatre has added music and modified the production of “A Christmas Carol,” featuring period songs from the 1840s, along with more contemporary traditional Christmas songs like “Silent Night” and “O Come All Ye Faithful.” The performance also usually features a couple of original songs by noted pianist John Carroll, who volunteers his talents for the show.“Anybody who would like to be a part of a great tradition is invited to audition or to volunteer,” Morici said. “We’re looking for actors, techs, stage management and lighting people.” The production always draws enthusiastic audiences to Riverton to experience a holiday treat.Six performances of “A Christmas Carol” will take place, on Friday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 3, at 2, 5 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 4, at 2 and 5 p.m. Anyone interested in participating in the production is invited to call Morici at 860-738-7225.
