A remembrance: Walter Davis

While in law school and my first years in practice, I was very fortunate to work with Walter Davis and Bob Trotta.I think a young lawyer needs to understand the importance of three skills: thinking and expressing oneself clearly, acting responsibly and finding effective resolutions to a client’s problems.Walter was one of those rare people who possessed all three. His keen analytical mind saw the essential elements of a problem, and no one spoke or wrote more clearly. His high degree of professionalism enabled him to treat his clients, his colleagues and his adversaries with equal respect. His pragmatic sense of fair play enabled him to solve a client’s problem effectively and was also the source of his success as a public official. In small communities especially, individuals can make a difference. Millerton was fortunate to have had Walter Davis live among us for so many years. He has left us a priceless legacy — the gift of a good example.— Edward E. Downey, Millerton

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
