MILLERTON — The third annual Fall Harvest Silent Auction to benefit the Millerton Lions Club was held on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the American Legion Hall.Attendants enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and desserts while bidding on roughly 140 items in the silent auction. The proceeds from the auction will benefit several local projects run or supported by the Lions Club, including vision and hearing exams, the Adopt-A-Family program, the battered woman’s shelter and the local food pantry.Lions Club President Todd Clinton said that the event generates several thousand dollars, which the club uses to provide “hidden support” to the community through providing vital services and making donations to important local organizations.Clinton stressed how thankful he is for the continued support of local businesses and residents.“Our success is because of the support we get from the community,” he said, noting that the yearly cash donations from some businesses reach into the thousands. “It’s pretty amazing.”Clinton also expressed his gratitude for the volunteerism from the Lions Club members as well as several nonmembers. “If they donate an hour, that’s more than what the club had before,” he said. The other large fundraiser for the Millerton Lions Club is the carnival held every summer. The Millerton Lions Club has been operating for more than 60 years.
