Connecticut State Police Troop B Police Blotter
The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
A report of a suspicious package in North Canaan was investigated Sept. 10. An employee at the AT&T facility on Main Street (Route 44) arrived at work at about 8:15 a.m. and discovered the package at the rear of the building. The State Police Emergency Services Unit was called. Technicians removed the package. An X-ray was used to determine it was not dangerous. The contents of the package were not specified. The package was removed and the case was closed.
Police are investigating a Sept. 13 report of a burglary on Sharon Ridge Road in Sharon. The victim is Shannon Miller. The incident occurred on Sept. 12 between 1:30 and 11:30 p.m. It remains under investigation.
Storm drain grates stolen
The Salisbury town crew reported Sept. 14 two storm drain grates stolen several weeks prior. One is missing from Dugway Road and one from Taconic Road. Anyone with information should call the resident state trooper’s office at 860-435-2938.
Truck hits tree
David Hurlburt, 51, of Cornwall was driving west on Route 4 in Cornwall Sept. 14. At about 3:45 p.m., he lost control. The 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck went off the right shoulder. It hit a tree. He was taken to Sharon Hospital for evaluation and treatment of an unrelated hand injury. Hurlburt was given a written warning for failure to drive right.
Victoria Jersey, 24, of Plainville, Conn., was stopped by police on East Main Street in North Canaan at 6:40 a.m. Sept. 14. She was arrested on a warrant. No details were given.
Pickup hits pole
Richard Schneider, 29, of Goshen was driving south on Route 63 in Cornwall Sept. 15. At about 9:54 p.m., he fell asleep at the wheel. The 1995 Ford F150 went off the road. It hit a utility pole. Schneider was not injured. He was given a verbal warning for failure to maintain the proper lane.
Michael Petrillo, 46, of Winchester was observed driving erratically on Route 44 in Salisbury, near the intersection of Wildcat Hollow Road at about 11:07 p.m. Sept. 16. He was stopped by police. He failed field sobriety tests. Petrillo was charged with driving under the influence and failure to maintain the proper lane. Bond was set at $1,000. He is to appear in Bantam Superior Court Oct. 3.
Robin Bolton-Smith of Cornwall Bridge was driving south on Route 45 in Cornwall Sept. 17. At about 10:14 a.m., just north of the intersection of Bald Mountain Road, she lost control. The 2011 Honda Element hit a utility pole. It rolled over. The car sustained heavy damage. Bolton-Smith was taken to Sharon Hospital with minor injuries. She was given a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Allen Spiro, 53, of Beacon, N.Y., was observed by state troopers swerving multiple times over both the white and yellow lines on Route 44 in Salisbury Sept. 18. He was pulled over at 7:02 p.m. He failed field sobriety tests. Spiro was charged with driving under the influence. Bond was set at $500. He is to appear in Bantam Superior Court Oct. 3.
Breach of peace
Daniel Walley of Sharon was arrested Sept. 18 after a 9:35 p.m. report of a disturbance in the area of Douglas Road. He was charged with breach of peace. Bond was set at $1,000. He is to appear in Bantam Superior Court Oct. 3.
