Police report two traffic fatalities Labor Day weekend
MIDDLETOWN — The Connecticut State Police reported at least 300 accidents took place over the course of the Labor Day holiday weekend, Sept. 2 to 5, including 14 with injuries and one fatal accident on the Merritt Parkway in Norwalk, in which two men were killed.Jeffrey Hinton, 22, of Stamford and Jason McKinney, 26, of Norwalk were the victims of the one-car accident, reported by State Police Troop G, in which the vehicle, driven by Hinton, struck a guardrail and went airborne before striking a tree. Hinton and McKinney were pronounced dead at the scene.Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact Troop G at 203-696-2800.State police reported issuing 1,249 speeding tickets between Friday, Sept. 2, at 12:01 a.m. and Monday, Sept. 5, at 11:59 p.m. There were 101 reported seat belt violations and 2,045 miscellaneous violations. Throughout the weekend, 49 motorists were citied for driving under the influence.State police had anticipated heavier than normal weekend traffic and used aircraft, unmarked vehicles and additional manpower to patrol highways and secondary roads.
