Dealing with the debris
NORTH EAST — In the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, Jim Horton and Shawn Morrison of the North East Highway Department spent several days repairing damage caused by the storm. “We had a few washouts here and there, but as far as I’m concerned, we got really lucky,” said Morrison. “I personally thought when the storm was coming that we’d be working for weeks.” They cleared drainage ditches and also repaired washouts, filled holes with gravel and removed brush to make the roads passable. Some of the other roads attended to were Ridgecrest Lane, Briarwood Lane and Mill Road.
